The first World Series was played in 1903 between the club of the Boston American League (now the Boston Red Sox) and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Although the first World Series was not played until 1903, there was a previous championship called "The Championship of the United States" and "World's Championship Series", in which the winners of the National League and the American Association played from 1884 to 1891. The series ended when the American Association folded in 1891.
Ban Johnson formed the American League in 1901 to try to take advantage of the National League reduced from twelve to eight teams. Ban Johnson and co-owners of an attack on the senior circuit and signed away many star players. This constant Raiding formed the idea of a championship between the National and American leagues.
The two leagues finally called a truce during the winter of 1902. The following August, Barney Dreyfuss, owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates challenged the Boston American League club to play an elf in the series championship, but even the best of nine series, the first three matches were played in Boston, Pittsburgh and four to two in Boston.
Some have seen in the action game Leeves Saturday, the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher to drop his shoulder injured during the shooting. His teammate Deacon Phillippe, the height and five complete sets of Pittsburgh. It even has a world record in the series of ten strokes of the drums, of Boston, but this case is broken, as Pittsburgh beat Dinneen eleven batters in Game 2!
Americans in Boston came back to win the last four games. The final results of the 1903 World Series, Boston won the first World Series five games to three, winning the last four.
Barney Dreyfuss, owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates added to its share of income for players. This means that players of the losing team finished with a larger individual share of the winning team!
The first World Series is a voluntary agreement between the two clubs, and a World Series in 1904 did not happen.
The success of the first series, the new American League beat the best in the National League, increased demand for future World Series. Thus, in 1905, the World Series was required in an annual event.
