Well, I'll start by saying that I hate the Yankees and therefore hate Don Mattingly. With the way my review of these bats will be objective.
Mattingly main selling point, the bat is the V-Grip handle. The handle, just the shape of a V is designed to help you grasp the handle properly. You want your door knocking knuckles aligned upon to grasp the handle. In my opinion, it is the equivalent of youth with baseball gloves to the next level to help children better to close the glove box.
The problem is not a boy in high school or college will be seen holding this bat, as not to wear a glove with a notch in. Frankly, a boy who has reached puberty, will not be considered as having a V-Grip bat. He screams that the player is inexperienced and needs a crutch (sorry Donny, I say this even if you had played for a team I do not hate).
These bats are the only ones that I have, I have not seen or touched in the same province. Thus, the comments are bats, but my advice is Mattingly Bats:
100% Composite
- Mattingly Beast - 100% composite bat with a single piece with a big stick. In addition to the V-Grip, they tout the Xtreme Weave Carbon construction for maximum strength and durability. Needless to say I do not recommend this bat.
100%
- Mattingly Ripped - 100% alloy, one piece bat with a solid handle. Medium grade alloy (alloy MB55Sc) boast the same advantages as the Beast. It is remarkable that the two bats of different materials have exactly the same benefits. Not recommended.
- Mattingly V Force - One piece, 100% alloy bat with a solid handle. This bat is only available in models for youth and is composed of an alloy that has been around for over 15 years (MB75 alloy). Unless you play T-Ball are better options.
